The (Resource) Strategy and Development Unit of the Archbishops’ Council and  Church Commissioners is publishing the first issue of a ‘Resourcing Mission  Bulletin’.

The Bulletin has grown out of  the series of spending plans conferences held last year with representatives of  the beneficiaries of the funds made available by the Commissioners. The  conferences identified a need for better knowledge in the Church about the use  of resources and their impact. The Bulletin seeks to help fill this knowledge  gap. It aims to cover resourcing mission issues in the broadest sense – not just  looking at how the funds made available by the Church Commissioners are spent  but also at wider examples from dioceses and cathedrals about innovative and  successful approaches to resourcing mission and at good practice in other  Anglican churches and denominations.

It is our hope that the  Bulletin, which will be published twice-yearly, will be an effective vehicle for  helping to disseminate the lessons learned from existing ministry and mission,  spread ideas about the opportunities for growth and, more generally, stimulate  thinking on a range of resourcing issues..

The Bulletin is published on  the Church of England website. http://www.cofe.anglican.org/about/churchcommissioners/resourcingmission/resourcingmissionjuly2010.pdf

In September a new University term will  be starting. It is likely that people from the parishes in your Diocese will be  amongst those beginning a University course this year. In most of the  Universities to which they go, we have chaplains, who offer support to all  students and staff. That process can be made more effective if the chaplains and  students have some introduction to each other. One way that can happen is if,  with the permission of the student concerned, clergy and others let the chaplain  know the name and contact details of the student. Details of the chaplaincy can  be found on the university website. In case of difficulty please contact Stephen  Heap, National Higher Education Adviser: stephen.heap@c-of-e.org.uk or 'phone 020 7898 1513.Any help in passing this message on to the  parishes will be appreciated.

St Paul’s Cathedral has recently launched St Paul’s Institute, a think tank  which seeks to foster an informed Christian response to the most urgent ethical  and spiritual issues of our times: financial integrity, economic theory, and the  meaning of the common good. It now has its own dedicated website www.stpaulsinstitute.org.uk Visitors to the  website will find theological commentary, video interviews, original research  and analysis, as well as daily news aggregation. The Institute will also host a  series of lectures, debates and study days.
